| Wireless Network Card |
A WiFi card is an add-on component that allows your computer to connect to wireless networks if the motherboard doesn't have built-in WiFi capability. It works similarly to the WiFi function in smartphones and laptops, enabling your computer to access the internet without a physical Ethernet cable.
- Installation: Most WiFi cards are PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) cards that you install directly into an empty PCIe slot on the motherboard. Some smaller cards use the M.2 slot if available.
- Wireless Connection: Once installed, the WiFi card receives and transmits data wirelessly through one or more antennas. It communicates with your router or other wireless access points to provide internet access.
- Speed Standards: Look for WiFi cards that support the latest WiFi standards, like WiFi 6 (802.11ax) or WiF 7 (802.11be), for faster speeds and improved performance.
- Range and Signal Strength: External antennas on the card improve range and signal quality, especially in larger spaces or areas with weak WiFi coverage.
- Bluetooth Compatibility: Some WiFi cards also support Bluetooth, allowing you to connect Bluetooth devices like headphones, controllers, and keyboards.
