| 1st Storage Drive |
A hard drive (HDD, or Hard Disk Drive) is the main place where your computer stores all its data - like a library for all your files, photos, programs, and even the operating system. Unlike RAM, which only holds data temporarily, a hard drive keeps data even when the computer is turned off.
Key Features:
- Permanent storage: The hard drive is your computer's long-term memory, holding everything until you decide to delete it.
- Magnetic disks: Inside the hard drive, there are spinning disks coated with magnetic material. Data is written onto these disks with a moving arm that reads and writes data as the disks spin.
- Slower than SSDs: Hard drives are generally slower than SSDs (Solid State Drives), which have no moving parts. This means data retrieval takes a bit longer with a hard drive, especially for big files or programs.
The storage you need in your system depends on your useage:
- For light use (OS, apps, light gaming): 250GB to 500GB.
- For moderate use (larger apps, more games, or content creation): 1TB to 2TB.
- For heavy use (large file storage, high-end gaming, or professional content creation): 2TB and above.
