A webcam is a digital camera that connects to a computer to capture and stream live video or still images. It's usually connected via USB and used for video calls, online meetings, live streaming, and recording videos.
Key Features:
- Resolution: Determines the image quality; typical resolutions are 720p (HD), 1080p (Full HD), and even 4K for higher-end models.
- Frame Rate: Measured in frames per second (fps), it determines the smoothness of the video. Most webcams record at 30fps or 60fps, which is ideal for video calls and streaming.
- Lens Quality: Higher-quality lenses (like glass vs. plastic) provide sharper, clearer images, especially in low-light conditions.
- Field of View (FOV): The width of the camera's capture area. Wider FOVs (e.g., 90°) can capture more background, ideal for group calls, while narrower FOVs (e.g., 60°) focus closely on one subject.
- Autofocus: Adjusts the camera's focus automatically to keep the subject sharp, which is useful if you move around in front of the camera.
- Low-Light Correction: Enhances image quality in low-light environments, making the video appear clearer and more balanced.
- Built-in Microphone: Many webcams come with built-in mics to capture audio, though for higher audio quality, external microphones are often preferred.
- Privacy Shutter: A physical cover that slides over the camera lens, ensuring privacy when the camera isn't in use.
